The Town

I am a place where the mountain goat dwells,
A place with many stone wells.
A place where a river starts,
And really early the day departs.

I know it’s 5 when the cock starts crowing,
And it’s 6 when men go rowing.
They row as noiselessly as a thief
While women at home are cooking beef.

I know it’s 7 when I hear mothers giving calls,
To little children in overalls.
It’s 8 when children go to school,
And men come home and start to drool.

To drool at the beef made,
By the ones they treat as maids.
I know it’s 9 when men go to the markets,
While women at home weave jute baskets

Then I spend time with my momma,
You may know her as flora and fauna.
I take care of her in her old age,
Since humans destroy her for a daily wage.

I admire her eternally changing beauty,
And she praises me, for fulfilling my duty.
I am amused by the play of her frogs and crocs,
And she likes my children playing in shoes and socks.

Then before I know it, the sun goes to bed,
And the moon comes out with a balding head.
I wish I could wish my humans a ’night
’cause they fill me up with life and light.

At night not a mountain goat dwells,
No one goes to visit the stone wells.
But the river keeps flowing down the slope,
While humans sleep like they have had a dope.
